Where to Go and When in Taiwan -Our Recommendations
Let us suppose you've already chosen Taiwan to be your travel
destination and now you would like to know where to go and when in
Taiwan.
Thanks to its geographical location the country enjoys tropical to
moderate climate, which means it is warm all year round, and so there
is actually no low season to travel
Taiwan.
Now let us define what exactly you expect of your vacation? Is it
studying the rich cultural heritage of the land, getting to know
history of Taiwan
and its diversified traditions, moving around the
country in search of spectacular landscapes or going into sport
activities and indulging into the night-life of Taipei, Kaohsiung and
other major cities?
If it is the first of the cited examples, then try to avoid major
Taiwanese holidays, especially festivals celebrated according to the
lunar calendar: temples will be overcrowded with locals and streets
full of joyful processions that can impede admiring the beautiful
samples of
Taiwanese architecture at your own pace. The Ghost month (late August
to early September) is traditionally less fussy as the Taiwanese
believe it is the time for souls of their ancestors to roam around the
Earth, and do not travel anywhere themselves.
On the whole, trying to understand the lunar calendar may be a very
good idea.
If large-scale festivities do not scare you off, you may as well take
part in them, as for example in the Lantern Festival following the New
Year's celebrations in Taipei, Luerhmen or Peikang.
Summer months can be a bit too hot – and humid too, so it is
probably better to travel Taiwan in October or November. National parks
of Taiwan will appear in all their glory and sea waters will still be
warm enough to swim, serf and dive, especially off the Eastern and
extreme Southern coast.
As little snow can be seen in the mountains, tourists who travel Taiwan
will find another unusual kind of ports – grass skiing that
several resorts around the country offer along with great hot spring
baths.
