Taipei, the Capital
Taiwan's boisterous capital, Taipei, is a place not to be missed when
you travel Taiwan.
The city with life pulsating round the clock, Taipei
is a magic box of amazing artefacts reflecting the 5 thousand years of
Chinese history. Traditional architecture of
Taiwan seen in the Tihua
Street or in the Wanhus area perfectly blends with modern high-tech
buildings of this economical and political centre adding diversity and
brightness to Taipei's face. The extensive transportation network makes
moving around
Taiwan's capital easy and fast and the variety of
international hotels ensures comfortable accommodation when you travel
Taiwan.
Tianmu and Yongkang Street restaurants and shops will fascinate you
with the widest variety of food and drinks, ranging from international
cuisine dishes to traditional Chinese and Taiwanese culinary delights,
including the renowned snacks and snake meat and wine.
As long as you travel Taiwan don't miss the allure of restless night
markets, Huaxi being the most famous one.
Numerous museums house extensive collections of art works in Taiwan
cherished all over the world, so when you travel Taiwan be sure to
visit the National Palace Museum that can boast over 620,000 works of
rare imperial treasures, Taipei Fine Arts Museum (the only museum of
modern art in Taipei) or National Museum of History.
The white-marble memorial honouring the former president of the
Republic of China, Chiang Kai-shek, situated right in the heart of the
city is another great place of interest in Taipei. Resembling Egyptian
pyramids in a way, it offers a remarkable view over the large garden
with red flowers and ponds, and the primary colours correspond to those
of the National Flag, symbolizing ideas of freedom and democracy. The
National Theatre and the National Concert Hall are also situated on the
territory of CKS Memorial. Here, internationally renowned musicians and
theatre troupes give performances and concerts, sometimes even in the
open air. It is also the setting for Taipei Lantern Festival where
time-honoured traditions and technological achievements fuse in
breath-taking dragon dances, acrobatic skits, musical performances and
naturally Lantern-Lighting Ceremony marking the beginning of Year
according to the Chinese calendar.
Strikingly beautiful Taipei temples like Lungshan Temple, Chingshan
Temple, Bao-an Temple or Chingshan Temple serve as religious and social
centres for the locals, while tourists can admire the ritual ceremonies
and festivals held within their solemn walls.
The natural scenes in Taipei are well worth admiring, too. The
Yang-Ming-Shan National Park is renowned for its beautiful vulcanic
terrain and wild flora, and tours to Taipei hardly go without a walk
around the park's vast territory. Hot mineral baths make you forget the
weariness brought by the busy day's adventures and dream about some
pleasant experiences you've had during your travel to Taiwan.
